Owatonna’s Kubista Takes Ninth in Long Jump at State; Kubat 15th in 3200

Owatonna junior Dalton Kubista had a nice performance in his state meet debut in the triple jump. Senior Braydon Kubat capped his prep career by running the 3200.

Kubista entered state with the tenth best seed distance and finished ninth to earn a spot on the podium Friday. Coach Kevin Stelter said Kubista had a good day and has a bright future, "He's only a junior if he continues to work hard in the weight room and on his technique, next year he possibly could break into that top five or six."

Kubista covered 43-feet-6.75-inches for his top triple jump, a couple of inches short of his section championship jump.

Kubat ended up 15th out of 16 runners in the 3200 meter event. Coach Dave Chatelaine said, "That was Braydon's goal all four years of track at OHS. It was great to see him have that exciting finish at the section meet (to qualify for state)."

Friday's race got off to an extremely fast start, "That race was a little different than what he's used to running. It went out a lot faster than it usually runs. Be he hung in there." Kubat finished in 10:07.98 passing one runner toward the end.

Chatelaine said the race was a good start to the summer of training for Kubat who plans to run cross country and track at UMD. He ran at the state high school cross country meet last fall.
