16 Area Wrestlers Going to State
Five Owatonna wrestlers punched their ticket to the state tournament with top two finishes in the Section 1AAA Saturday at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. Five others finished in third place. The state individual tournament is Friday and Saturday, March 2-3 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The team tournament is Thursday, March 1.

Owatonna freshman Lindsay Bangs added to her personal trophy case with medals in the all-around and on the uneven bars at Saturday's individual portion of the state gymnastics meet. She just missed the medal stand in the vault and floor exercise, finishing in the top ten in each. Senior Becca Olson and juniors Ali An and Syndey Kretlow also participated Saturday. On Friday Owatonna captured the third place trophy in the team event for the second straight year. This was the Huskies' third straight appearance at state.

OHS Takes Third at State
Owatonna finished third at the Class AA state gymnastics meet Friday at the Maturi Sports Pavilion at the University of Minnesota. It's the Huskies second straight third place trophy in their third consecutive appearance at the state meet. The Huskies scored 148.7. Stillwater Area captured the state title with 150.250. Lakeville North took second place with 149.7.

This is the second straight year that Owatonna junior Ali An has qualified for the state diving meet. This year she is focused on making the finals after mainly having fun and getting feel for the event in 2016, "My sophomore year I mainly focused on having fun. So maybe this year I'll do better, because I have experience with it."
