Owatonna, Medford Wrestling Teams Ranked to Start the Season
Owatonna and Medford wrestling teams won't be sneaking up on anybody this season. They rarely do. The programs have developed a solid footing and both are ranked by The Guillotine Wrestling website to open the season. The Huskies are No. 10 in Class AAA, one spot behind section foe Northfield. The Tigers are among the "Lean and Mean" rated teams, a couple of spots behind No. 12 ranked Blue Earth Area, a Section 2 opponent.
Section 1, Class AAA has some changes, as reported on by The Guillotine, "Section 1 (AAA) sees the departure of Albert Lea to Class AA, and Farmington moves over to Section 2. That leaves Northfield and Owatonna to battle it out for the team title, with Faribault being a dark horse."
Northfield won the section crown last winter, then lost to Shakopee in the state quarterfinals/super sectionals. Owatonna lost to Albert Lea in the section semifinals in the 2020-21 season.
Individually, OHS has five rated wrestlers. Medford has three. NRHEG features a pair in the top ten. Westfield has one rated athlete. Rankings will be updated on December 9. Check out the feature below on OHS grad Peyton Robb and his experience wrestling for Team USA. (Link in the Tweet below.)
