Blooming Prairie senior Tommy Braaten won the Class A state title Wednesday, extending a four-stroke lead to a whopping ten-shot victory at Pebble Creek in Becker.

Braaten's score increased slightly from a school-record 68 in Tuesday's opening round to an even-par 72 Wednesday. All his pursuers saw their scores go up even more. Braaten is the second Awesome Blossom golfer to capture a state title, joining Lisa Meshke who won in 2000. A special welcome home was held Wednesday night for Braaten.

As a team, the BP boys finished seventh while playing at state for the second straight year. On the girls' side, Taylor Christianson finished in a tie for 19th place. She shot 96 Wednesday after an opening-round 81 Tuesday.

Owatonna senior Andrew Wall shaved three strokes off his score, following up Tuesday's 81 with a 78 Wednesday. He rose to 45th in the overall standings. Triton sophomore Shelby Maloney bettered her score from 96 to 95 for a 191 total. Each was playing at state for the first time.

The boys' team champions are Mahnomen / Waubun (A), The Blake School (AA) and Wayzata (AAA). The girls' team champions are BOLD (A), Detroit Lakes (AA) and Edina (AAA). All three Section 1 teams finished second in the girls' standings. Fillmore Central was four shots behind BOLD. Lake City came in four strokes behind Detroit Lakes. Red Wing was 36 shots behind Edina. The Wingers and Hornets each had one player share the state individual title.
