Owatonna’s Hometown Holiday Weekend
Thanksgiving was later this year, so it feels like the Hometown Holiday Weekend is running later. There's so many things to do, especially this weekend to get ready and into the Christmas spirit. And, with the weather looking to be very mild over the weekend, this is the time to get out, before the bottom drops out and we get cold again.
Of course we start out with the Canadian Pacific Train stopping, that's Thursday afternoon, with a performance that will warm your hearts, while they take donations for the Steele County Food Shelf. Later in the evening, the Lighted Holiday Parade. Always such a fun time, seeing all of the vehicles and floats lit up for the holiday season. This event will finish off with the OHS Carolers performing in Central Park, and some hot beverages.
Also going on this weekend is the Steele County Historical Society's Christmas in the Village. You can tour the Village of Yesteryear, decked out for Christmas, including the Dunnell House. The schedule for Friday:
Village and History Center open 4:30 to 8:00 PM
Soup Super, 4:30 to 6:30 pm, in the History Center, Wenger Room (get tickets) Sponsored by Rocon
Fancy Cookie Sale, History Center, Lange Theater
Visit with Santa, Village of Yesteryear, Dunnell House
Hands-on children's activities in the Village of Yesteryear and History Center
Live music throughout the campus
County Junction Gift Shop, offering unique holiday gifts
Saturday will be more of the same, however the soup supper is only on Friday evening. On Sunday, that is the Holiday Home Tour, where you can tour homes in the area to see how they have decorated for the holidays.
Don't forget that "Shop With Santa" is also going on Saturday morning, the kiddos can shop without their parents and families seeing what they are buying.
Let us know what you favorite traditions are to get ready for the holiday season!
