Farmington's girls basketball team had a big second half to rally past Owatonna 71-59 Tuesday. A few miles away the Tigers' girls hockey team scored four times in the second period to spark their 7-1 win over Owatonna.

The girls' hoops game was a rematch of last season's section quarterfinals won by the Tigers at OHS. Owatonna's Lexi Falken hit six three-pointers in the first half as the Huskies went into the locker room up 33-28. Farmington outscored Owatonna 43-26 in the second half. The Tigers Ellie Clayton led all scorers with 24 points. Her teammate, 6-foot-4 freshman Sophie Hart, went for 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Syd Schultz scored 17 for OHS. Jenna Zeman added 10. The Huskies go to Mankato East Saturday and open their home schedule Tuesday, December 5 against Mankato West.

Local girls basketball scores also include Blooming Prairie 62-45 over Triton, Faribault edged Rochester Mayo 30-24 and Mankato West beat Waseca 62-60.

At Farmington's hockey arena, Owatonna hung with the defending Section 1AA champion Tigers with a scoreless first period. The Tigers put the puck into the crease several times in the first period, but couldn't get it into the net. OHS had a few scoring chances as well in the first period. Those opportunities dried up in the second, as FHS out shot Owatonna 20-2 while scoring four times.

Eighth-grader Claire Enright finished off a hat trick late in the third. Owatonna's goal came from Margo Achterkirch midway through the third, her fifth of the season. The Tigers had 45 shots, compared to the Huskies' 12 shots on net. Owatonna (2-1) plays at Faribault Saturday, December 2 at 3:30PM. Their next home contest is Tuesday, December 5 against Apple Valley.

Other girls hockey results Tuesday include Faribault 5, St. Paul Blades 0 and Rochester Mayo 10-3 over Austin. Boys hockey action included Rochester Mayo blanking Faribault 7-0 and Mankato West topping Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter 6-5 in overtime.
