Faribault Bethlehem Academy rallied from a 2-sets-to-1 deficit and fought off two match points in the fifth game to outlast Hayfield 3-2 Thursday at Mayo Civic Center and add another Section 1A, West Subsection trophy to their collection. A year ago Hayfield topped the Cardinals for the crown.
A nice playoff run ended for NRHEG volleyball Tuesday night 3-0 to No. 2 seed St. Clair in the Section 2A, south subsection semifinals. The scores went 25-19, 25-11, 25-22. NRHEG (11-17, No. 6 seed) had beaten Springfield in the first round and upset No. 3 seed Alden-Conger in the quarterfinals.
No. 6 seed NRHEG upset No. 3 Alden-Conger 3-2 Thursday in the Section 2A, South Subsection quarterfinals. NRHEG advances to semifinals at St. Peter High School with a 25-19, 15-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-8 victory. The Panthers will see No. 2 seed St. Clair Tuesday at 7:45PM.
Farmington defeated Owatonna 3-2 in a back-and-forth first-round volleyball match in the Section 1AAA playoffs Wednesday night in Farmington. The Huskies grabbed the first set 25-22. The Tigers won the next two 25-12, 25-23. OHS dominated the fourth 25-23. Farmington jumped out to a big lead early in the fifth set, winning it 15-11.
Owatonna first-year volleyball coach Whitney Ordal thinks her players will be extra fired up to face Bethlehem Academy Monday night since she used to coach there with Franz Boelter. She would prefer the team focus on their own game and end the regular season on a strong note.
The Owatonna girls tennis team has advanced to the Section 1AA semifinal again. OHS beat Hastings 5-2 Thursday at the West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center and will play Northfield Tuesday in Rochester.
The University of St. Thomas swept St. Olaf College in volleyball at the Skoglund Center in Northfield Wednesday to take over the lead in the MIAC in a match carried on KDHL AM 920. Each team entered with a 3-0 conference mark,
