The University of St. Thomas swept St. Olaf College in volleyball at the Skoglund Center in Northfield Wednesday to take over the lead in the MIAC in a match carried on KDHL AM 920. Each team entered with a 3-0 conference mark, the best start for the Oles since winning the league title in 2010. St. Olaf led at some point in each set, but got swept the No. 17 Tommies 25-22, 25-17, 25-21.

The Oles led through the midway point of the first set. Up 12-9, the Oles endured a 10-2 run by the Tommies. St. Olaf responded with a 5-0 late in the set but fell 25-23. St. Olaf junior Megan Grimes had six kills in the set and 11 for the match. The Oles scored the first couple of points in the second set, but trailed most of the way in falling 25-17.

The third set was a dual with the score tied at every point from 6-6 to 13-13. The Tommies went on a 3-0 run but the Oles squared the game at 18-18. A 6-1 run by St. Thomas ended any comeback hopes for the Oles.

Freshman Summer Reid had nine kills and 13 digs for St. Olaf. Sophomore Lauren Rewers had six kills and eight digs. Freshman Lexi Wall distributed 27 set assists. Faribault High School graduate Haley Langeslag had seven digs. Julia Spacek led St. Thomas with ten kills. Ellie Etzell added nine.

St. Thomas held St. Olaf to a .092 attack percentage, well below their season average of .221. The Tommies hit .177, down from their average of .225. Each team committed 21 hitting errors. St. Thomas had six ace serves and three errors. St. Olaf had just two aces and committed six serving errors.

The Oles (12-6, 3-1) host Bethel Saturday at 3PM at Skoglund. KDHL will also carry Ole matches on October 11 vs St. Catherine and October 25 versus St. Mary's.
