Schultz Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Huskies Victory
Owatonna junior Sydney Schultz reached 1,000 career points in the Huskies' 88-73 win over Mankato West on Monday night. She scored 27 points as Owatonna won their fourth in a row.
Schultz entered the night five points shy of the milestone and reached the magic number before any of her teammates had scored. She is the 10th Owatonna player to reach that figure and currently has 1,022 points. The Huskies have scored at least 80 points in each of their past three games. Owatonna (11-3, 10-2 Big Nine) leads the conference. OHS is scheduled to host Red Wing on Wednesday, but face the prospect of having that game postponed for a third time depending on how the winter storm unfolds.
The Owatonna boys won their sixth straight game, beating West 67-48 while leading wire-to-wire. Dalton Kubista drained the Huskies' first 11 points on his way to 17 first-half points and 22 total. He hit five three pointers, all in the first half. Alex Raichle scored 11 while playing stifling defense on West's best player. Jake Makela was held to three points, 12 below his average.
OHS led 34-24 at the half. West pulled within 35-30 right away out of the locker room. Then Owatonna went on a 10-0 run and led by double digits the rest of the way. A number of players contributed points to the run, including a slam dunk by Jason Williamson. Owatonna (9-3, 7-2 Big Nine) plays a makeup game at Red Wing on Thursday.
The snow is forecast for Tuesday, but Owatonna's boys hockey team buried Faribault 11-0 Monday night in a makeup game at the Four Seasons Centre. The Falcons were forced to use a backup goalie in the game.
The OHS girls followed that with a 3-1 victory over Minnehaha Academy. Margo Achterkirch, Kiley Friedrichs and Jenna Bogen scored as Owatonna ran its unbeaten streak to eight straight (6-0-2). The Huskies are schedule to play a makeup game at Faribault on Tuesday at 5PM.
Owatonna's adapted floor hockey team won its game over New Prague on Monday, giving Huskies sports a 5-for-5 varsity sweep for the night.
