The Owatonna wrestlers made quick work of Rochester Century in Thursday's Section 1AAA quarterfinals at the OHS gym. The Huskies won 70-0 in their first action in defense of their section crown from 2017. Owatonna will face Northfield Saturday at 11AM at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester on KRFO AM1390. The winner advances to the section final at 1PM. The Huskies edged Northfield 33-30 on December 14.

Big Nine champ Owatonna (No. 6AAA) has five ranked wrestlers according to The Guillotine wrestling publication and website. They are Blake West (6th at 106 pounds), Landen Johnson (7th at 126), Peyton Robb (1st at 160), Cade King (1st at 182) and Nick Staska (4th at 195). Northfield has a pair of ranked wrestlers with Drew Woodley 5th at 120 pounds and Ethan Johnson 10th at 145.

No. 8 Albert Lea will face Faribault in Saturday's other semifinal. The Tigers have six rated wrestlers with Nic Cantu (3rd at 113), Jake Johnsrud (4th at 126), Gavin Ignaszewski (9th at 132), Brody Nielsen (5th at 152), Zach Glazier (2nd at 170) and Brady Nielsen (5th at 195). Brady Nielsen was not in the lineup when Owatonna beat Albert Lea for the conference title. The Falcons have ranked wrestlers at 220 pounds (Austin Rendler, 3rd) and 285 (Dillon McEachran, 6th)

Medford advanced to the Section 2A semifinals against Kenyon-Wanamingo Saturday at 2PM at LeSueur-Henderson High School. The fifth-seeded Tigers beat Westfield 43-33 at Hayfield High School Thursday night. The top-seeded Knights beat NRHEG in the quarterfinals 61-18 after the No. 9 Panthers beat No. 8 Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial 39-34. Maple River and Blue Earth Area are the other semifinalists.

In Section 1AA Kasson-Mantorville and Simley breezed to quarterfinal wins by a combined score of 152-0 and likely to meet in Saturday's final in what is likely the match for the state title.

Defending Section 1A and Class A state champion Zumbrota-Mazeppa whipped Wabasha-Kellog 70-9 and will face Caledonia Saturday. Goodhue and Chatfield meet in the other semifinal.
