Owatonna Stuns No. 2 Austin
The Owatonna boys' basketball team stunned Austin Tuesday night 72-61, handing the No. 2-AAA Packers their first loss of the season 72-61. OHS held Austin about 20 points below their average. Five players reached double digits points as the Huskies extended their winning streak to five.
Austin led 35-34 at the half, but Owatonna outscored them 38-26 in the second half, and went 15-for-21 from the free throw line after the break. Dalton Kubista and Andrew Jackson led the attack with 16 points apiece. Nolan Malo had 13. Alex Raichle scored 12. Jason Williamson added 11. The Huskies were 22-for-30 overall from the free throw line. Austin went 10-for-15.
The Packers didn't shoot well and the Huskies didn't surrender many offensive rebounds. OHS out rebounded Austin 37-24. Jackson grabbed ten. Williamson and Raichle each nabbed eight.
Owatonna (8-4, 7-2 Big Nine) faces another tough challenge Friday, January 19 when they play at No. 5-AAA Mankato East at 7:30PM on KRFO AM1390.
The Owatonna girls hammered Austin 76-39 on Teacher Appreciation Night at the OHS gym with each player honoring an educator who has impacted them. Sydney Schultz scored 28. Jenna Zeman added 24 as the Huskies improved to 10-5 overall and 9-2 in the Big Nine. The Huskies host Mankato East Friday night at 7:30PM on Kat Kountry 105FM.
