Owatonna Soccer to Host Playoff Doubleheader Versus Rochester Mayo Tuesday

The Section 1AA soccer playoffs open at the Lincoln Soccer Complex in Owatonna on Tuesday with the Huskies hosting Rochester Mayo in a boys-girls doubleheader.

Each match is a No. 4 vs No. 5 seed. Owatonna earned the fourth seed in each case with a regular season win over the Spartans.

On the boys side, Owatonna (8-7-1) beat Mayo (7-8-1) during the regular season 4-3. The Huskies are 4-1 in their past five games, allowing zero or one goal in the victories. Mayo is 3-2 over the same span. This is a rematch of the 2015 section final won by Mayo. Game time is Tuesday is 5PM.

The winner will likely face top-seed Lakeville North (13-0-3) in the semifinals Thursday. Other first-round games include New Prague at Lakeville North, Rochester Century at Lakeville South and Rochester JM at Farmington.

For the girls, Owatonna (7-6-1) edged Mayo (10-6) with a 1-0 shutout to get the home field despite Mayo's better record. The Huskies have shut out five of their past seven opponents. Mayo was on a five-match winning streak until falling to Lakeville South over the weekend. Game time Tuesday is 7PM.

The winner will probably go to top-seed Lakeville North (10-3-2) on Thursday. Tuesday's other opening round games include New Prague at Lakeville North, Rochester Century at Farmington and Rochester JM at Lakeville South.

The girls tennis Section 1AA team semifinals are Tuesday at the Rochester Athletic Club. At 9AM Owatonna will face Lakeville North and Rochester Mayo will play Lakeville South. The winners will square off at 12:30PM for the section crown.
