Owatonna won the Section 1-5A football championship Friday night 49-25 over Northfield at OHS. Future Golden Gopher Jason Williamson reset his own school single-game rushing record before the ink had dried on his previous performance.

Williamson had well over 450 yards rushing and six touchdowns Friday. Last Saturday he ran for 441 yards and eight touchdowns in a section semifinal win over Rochester Mayo. He has approximately 2,300 yards this season and about 6,300 in his career.

Owatonna led Friday's game 14-0 at the half. Northfield quickly scored 11 third-quarter points to pull within 14-11. The Huskies responded with three touchdowns, all Williamson runs, in less than a three-minute span for a 35-11 lead.

OHS advances to the state quarterfinals at TCO Performance Center in Eagan, the training facility of the Minnesota Vikings. Ticket sales are limited due to the capacity of the stadium. Tickets will be available at the Owatonna High School main entrance beginning Monday, November 5 from 8:30 am - 3 pm. Tickets can also be purchased at the Knights of Columbus Hall 3:45 - 5 pm.

The Huskies are the defending state champs after reaching the semifinals in 2016. This is Owatonna's eighth overall state tournament appearance. OHS also won a title in 2013 and was runner-up in 1982, 1998 and 2012.
