The Owatonna wrestling squad went 2-1 in its return to The Clash National Wrestling Duals at Rochester Friday. Action resumes at 9AM Saturday for the Huskies.

OHS lost to Providence Catholic 46-25 to open the event. The meet started at the 152 pound class and Peyton Robb pinned his opponent as Owatonna built a 25-12 lead after heavyweight. Cade King won by major decision. Brandon Moen won by fall in his season debut. Griffin Thorn won by pin and Goy Tut won by decision. Providence Catholic, ranked No. 4AAA in Illinois, ran off seven straight wins to close the meet and earn the 46-25 win.

No. 6AAA Owatonna beat top-ranked Pierre, SD in round two 36-34. The Huskies built a big early lead but fell behind in the lower weights, setting the stage for a thrilling finish. Starting at 160 pounds, Owatonna earned pins in five of the first six bouts from King, Nick Staska, Moen, Thorn and Tut. The Governors won the next six matches for a 34-30 lead. Bryce Goodwin, making his season debut on Friday, won a 6-1 decision to pull OHS within 34-33. Top-ranked Robb got a 9-2 decision for the team victory.

Round three was back-and-forth tussle with top-rated Commerce, GA, who featured six returning state champions in their lineup. Owatonna won 37-30. The lead changed hands four times through the first half of the meet. Moen won a major decision over a No. 1-ranked opponent and Thorn got his third pin of the day but OHS trailed after heavyweight 13-10 after Tut lost in overtime. Kanin Hable started the lighter weights with his first varsity win, a 1-0 decision. Kaden Nelson won by forfeit and Joe Fox earned a win by decision to give Owatonna a 25-13 advantage. Jacob Harlicker and Robb got pins down the stretch for the final margin of 37-30.

Wrestling begins at 9AM Saturday for the Huskies at Rochester Community and Technical College field house. This year marks Owatonna's tenth appearance in the event.

St. Edward, OH won the bracket with a 35-30 victory over Apple Valley.
