Owatonna Girls Tennis, Volleyball and Soccer Teams All Win Tuesday
The Owatonna girls tennis team swept its way through the first round of the Section 1AA tournament. The OHS boys soccer team clipped top-five ranked Austin 2-1.
OHS girls tennis scored a 7-0 victory over Faribault on Tuesday. The No. 3 seed Huskies will host No. 6 Northfield on Thursday at 4PM at the OHS courts. Owatonna beat the Raiders 6-1 during the regular season. The winner advances to the section final four Tuesday, October 11, at the Rochester Athletic Club.
Owatonna's boys soccer squad beat No. 5A Austin 2-1 at the Lincoln Complex in Owatonna. Juan Maya scored about midway through the first half. Austin answered a short time later to tie it at 1-1. With 17 minutes remaining in the game, Abukar Fakrudin converted on a penalty kick for the winning margin. OHS goal keeper Aidan Buryska made a number of dazzling flying, diving and leaping saves. The Huskies wrap up the regular season Thursday, hosting Mankato East at 7PM.
The OHS girls soccer team scored a 3-0 win at Austin. Sophie Amundson scored twice with Margo Achterkirch adding the other. Owatonna goes to Mankato to play East at Kennedy Elementary at 4:30PM as their final match of the regular season.
The Huskies volleyball team swept Red Wing on Tuesday 25-15, 25-19, 25-20. OHS plays at Faribault on Thursday with coverage on Power 96 radio.
In other Big Nine volleyball, Rochester Century remained unbeaten in conference play with a three-set sweep of Rochester Mayo. Northfield blanked Winona 3-0. Mankato West swept Rochester JM. Albert Lea topped Faribault 3-1. Elsewhere, defending state champ WEM beat Le Sueur-Henderson 3-0 and Faribault Bethlehem Academy rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Mayer-Lutheran 3-2.
