The Owatonna girls hockey team lost the Section 1A final to Northfield 3-1. OHS wrestling won its section opener and will face Faribault on Saturday at 1PM at Mayo Civic Center.

Girls hockey

The Huskies and Raiders traded goals in the second period. Northfield scored the game winner early in the third period and added an empty net goal for the 3-1 margin of victory. It's Northfield's first trip to the state tournament in girls hockey. Owatonna ended the season with a 19-9 record, their eighth straight winning record. Seniors for the Huskies include Jessica "Betty" VonRuden, Megan Rethemeier, Peyton DeVinny and Megan Foss.

Lakeville South defeated Dodge County 3-2 in overtime to capture their second straight Section 1AA title. It's the third runner-up finish for the Wildcats over the past four years.

Wrestling

Owatonna's wrestlers opened the Section 1AAA tournament with a 54-13 victory over Rochester Mayo at the OHS gym. The Huskies will face Faribault at 1PM Saturday at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester in the semifinals on KRFO AM 1390. Farmington and Rochester JM will meet in the other semifinal at the same time. The winners meet Saturday at 3PM.

In Section 1A Pine Island beat Triton 47-30. Zumbrota-Mazeppa eliminated the Panthers in the quarterfinals. Joining the Cougars in the final four Saturday are Goodhue, Dover-Eyota and Caledonia.

In Section 1AA Kasson-Mantorville, Stewartville, PEM and Albert Lea advanced to Saturday's semifinals.

Section 2A NRHEG defeated Blooming Prairie 51-21 in the pigtail match then lost to Kenyon-Wanamingo 65-3. Medford beat St. Clair 58-12 then lost to Blue Earth Area 68-5. The other semifinalists are Maple River and Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial.
