Thursday was to be opening day for Owatonna High School baseball, softball, and track and field. It was supposed to be the second match for the Huskies' boys' tennis team. None of those events occurred and when the spring sports season will begin remains anyone's guess.

Owatonna baseball was scheduled to play at Red Wing Thursday. The Huskies next game is set for Tuesday, April 10 at home against Winona, but that seems unlikely as well. Before spring sets in, this year could match the challenge of five years ago. In 2013 OHS didn't play its first game until April 26 after 11 postponements. Owatonna softball was also scheduled to play to play the Wingers Thursday. The track teams were looking forward to the co-ed relays. Owatonna boys' tennis will sit through their third postponement Saturday as their meet at Faribault gets pushed back or eliminated.

OHS golf openers on April 9 haven't been officially postponed yet on the Big Nine website, but the Huskies' boys' golf meet at Prior Lake April 11 has been moved to April 28. The lacrosse teams might start on schedule. The girls are scheduled to host Lakeville South April 12 and the boys entertain Farmington April 14.

Even artificial turf is no guarantee of playing. The Blooming Prairie softball game at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Friday is also postponed.
