The Owatonna boy's basketball team built an early 11-0 and 23-8 lead over No. 3AAA Mankato East on Tuesday night. But any thoughts of an easy win for the Huskies on Senior Night were dashed as East battled back to force overtime. Senior Dalton Kubista hit three free throws with five seconds to go in the extra session for a 73-72 win and season sweep for Owatonna over the Cougars.

The Huskies lead was trimmed to 32-26 by halftime. Regulation ended at 65-65. After Kubista's free throws East missed a three-pointer at the buzzer. OHS won despite turning the ball over nearly 25 times. Kubista led OHS with 20 points. Senior Nolan Malo scored 14 and senior Andrew Jackson added 13. It was Owatonna's second straight overtime game, having lost to Austin last Friday.

Owatonna's other seniors include Alex Raichle and Abe Havelka. Owatonna (19-6, 17-4) will close the regular season Friday, March 2 at Mankato West. The Huskies should host a playoff game on Wednesday, March 7. OHS is currently third in the section in the QRF rankings but Lakeville South and Farmington are not far behind and reside in the tough South Suburban Conference. The Big Nine has four top-ten ranked teams, but three of those are Class AAA teams.
