Huskies Strike Early, Blossoms Score Late as Each Stays Unbeaten
Owatonna scored 23 seconds into Friday's game at Mankato East and led 35-0 with a minute remaining in the first quarter. They had run a grand total of 14 plays while amassing the big lead on their way to a 71-12 win.
Jason Williamson had three of the first-quarter scores and 110 yards in the first half, while sitting out the second half. Brayden Truelson went 7-for-7 through the air with a trio of touchdown passes to Carson DeKam, Jake Miller and Isaac Oppegard. Sol Havelka took over the QB in the second quarter and Logan Gauthier engineered a long drive in the fourth quarter.
OHS out gained the Cougars roughly 520-100 yards. Owatonna (5-0) plays at Rochester Century (3-2) Friday, October 5. Each team is 2-0 in the Red Division standings of the Big Southeast District.
Blooming Prairie scored with a couple of minutes to go in the fourth quarter to edge Goodhue 20-14 in a top-five, class 1A showdown. Blooming Prairie (5-0) plays at Hayfield Friday night.
NRHEG dropped a 48-6 decision to WEM on Friday. The Panthers lost several turnovers early to turn the tide the Bucs way. NRHEG (3-2) plays at Maple River October 5 with coverage on Kat Kounty 105FM.
Medford lost in overtime 46-44 to Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity. The Tigers (3-2) go to Mankato to face St. Clair/Loyola in week 6.
Triton raced out to a 17-0 lead Friday, but Dover-Eyota scored the rest of the points to take a 30-17 victory. The Cobras (0-5) host Cannon Falls for homecoming.
