Huskies Girls Basketball and Hockey Earn Solid Wins, Boys Cagers Fall
The Owatonna girls basketball team built a double-digit lead by halftime on their way to a 70-56 win over Rochester John Marshall at the OHS gym.
Owatonna went on an early 11-0 run to go up 20-10 and led the rest of the way. The Huskies forced about 15 first-half turnovers with a mix of a couple of different pressure defenses. Sydney Schultz scored 24 points, 16 of those in the first half. Caitlin Anderson and Lexi Langeland added 10 apiece. The win snapped a five-game losing streak to the Rockets. Owatonna (6-2, 5-1 in the Big Nine) travels to Rochester Mayo on Thursday and Winona on Saturday.
The Owatonna boys led early at John Marshall but lost 85-68. Matthew Hurt pumped in 40 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Rockets. Dalton Kubista led OHS with 23 points. Andrew Jackson scored 12. Jay Sullivan and Alex Raichle each added 10. OHS (3-3, 2-2) hosts Mayo on Friday night.
Huskies girls hockey scored in the opening minute against Austin at the Four Seasons Centre and sailed to an 8-1 victory, while outshooting the Packers 37-9. Sydney Hunst had two goals and four assists, according to the hockey hub website. Jenna Bogen had two goals and three assists. Margo Achterkirch and Maylynn Prokopec also scored two each.
