Owatonna finished the boys basketball season with a 14-12 record, which is only good enough for a sixth seed and road game at Lakeville South in the 1AAAA quarterfinals.

The section has a pair of top-10-ranked teams, with Lakeville North, which earned the No. 1 seed, and Rochester John Marshall, which landed the No. 2 spot in the high school league's bracket. The quarterfinals are at the high seed Wednesday at 7PM.

Owatonna (14-12) scored an impressive win at No. 2AAA Red Wing last Tuesday but has only gone 2-5 in their last seven. The Huskies' longest winning streak was five straight around the holidays. The Cougars (17-9) did not play any Big Nine teams but swept Farmington, who Owatonna lost to in early December. Wednesday's game at South starts at 7PM on Kat Kountry 105FM.

The other first-round games are Rochester Century (4-22) at Lakeville North (21-5), Farmington (12-14) at New Prague (19-7) and Rochester Mayo (5-21) at John Marshall (22-4). The semifinals are Saturday, February 27, at 1PM and 2:45PM at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.

The Section 1AAA boys basketball tournament also begins Wednesday. Red Wing, which shared the Big Nine title with John Marshall, was awarded the top seed and hosts Albert Lea. Kasson-Mantorville goes to Winona, Byron plays at Northfield and Stewartville visits Austin.

Section 2AAA boys action begins Tuesday, February 23. New Ulm goes to top seed Marshall, Mankato West is at Faribault, Worthington plays at Mankato East and Hutchinson travels to Waseca.

Section 1AA boys basketball continues Monday, February 22, with a pair of quarterfinal games at the Mayo Civic Arena. Triton faces top seed Caledonia at 6PM followed by Rochester Lourdes and Cannon Falls at 7:30PM on Power 96 radio.

Section 1A boys basketball takes to the Auditorium floor Monday with Goodhue against Lyle / Pacelli at 6PM on KDHL AM 920 and Grand Meadow versus Southland at 7:30PM.

Monday's schedule includes a pair of local girls basketball regular season games, too. Triton plays a make-up game at NRHEG and Medford hosts Cannon Falls. The section playoffs begin this week for girls teams.
