First Half Run Leads Owatonna Girls Basketball to Victory; Boys Fall to John Marshall
The Owatonna girls basketball team blew open a close game with a 17-0 run in the first half of their 71-51 win at Rochester John Marshall on Friday night.
The pivotal run came midway through the first half and started with John Marshall holding an 18-17 lead after a back-and-forth start to the game. The run put OHS up 34-18. After a Rochester basket, the Huskies scored six straight points. OHS led 42-22 at the half.
Sydney Schultz had 30 points and at least 12 rebounds. Jenna Zeman added 14 points and several steals. Owatonna (16-5 overall, 14-4 Big Nine) hosts Rochester Mayo on Tuesday. The Spartans beat No. 1AAA Northfield 44-31 Friday to tighten up the Big Nine Conference standings.
Owatonna's boys basketball team dropped a 97-61 decision to conference-leading Rochester John Marshall. Dedoch Chan of JM led all players with 23 points. Matthew Hurt scored 21 for the Rockets. Jay Sullivan led Owatonna with 22 points. John Marshall out-rebounded Owatonna 40-18.
