What Exhibits are Coming to This Newly-Named Building on Steele Co. Fairgrounds?
A building on the Steele County Fairgrounds is getting a facelift and a new name. Formerly known as the Fish and Game Building, it has been renamed the Great Outdoors Center. The building will house some new exhibits during the 2021 Steele County Free Fair August 17-22.

Steele County Fair manager Scott Kozelka says, "The (Steele County Fair) Board voted last week at Thursday night's board meeting...opens it up a little bit to deal with outdoors more, rather than just fish and game."
He spoke on this week's Fair Talk about some exhibits that will be there, "The National Eagle Center from Wabasha will be here for a couple days. The Raptor Center from the University of Minnesota will be here for a couple days. Working on some other things with the high school and some different organizations. There's going to be a lot of new stuff in there."
Kozelka said the fairgrounds crew is working on a facelift for the Great Outdoors Center, It is located on the west side of the fairgrounds, right alongside the Beer Garden.
Meanwhile, on the east side of the fairgrounds, Fair Board member Sandy Jirele says a new educational experience awaits fairgoers, "The Southwest Dairy Farmers Mobile Dairy Classroom. And we're really excited about this."
"This is a trailer that comes in and they bring their own cow...They hold classes...about four sessions a day. They'll be across from the show arena. They'll be demonstrating milking and talking about the importance of dairy food, characteristics of our dairy cows and other information about milking and dairy farming."
