A Helpful Guide When Going to Your County or State Fair!
Now that it is summertime, there are many activities for you to do, and one of those is going to your county or state fair. But what do you do when going to the fair? What should you pack or prepare? Here are some things to keep in mind when getting ready to go to the fair.
1. Bring sunscreen
As we all know sunburns are no fun! You are going to be outside all day so make sure you pack some sort of sunscreen. Whether that be a spray, lotion, or one for your face! Don’t forget to bring sunglasses too!
2. Bring water
Water is just as important, if not even more than sunscreen! You will be spending money all day, and gobbling down some sweet treats. Bring some water in a reusable water bottle or a couple of plastic ones. This way you don’t have to spend the money on water and are hydrated during your time in the sun walking and eating delicious food.
3. Have some extra cash
While most places accept cards now, it is always nice to bring some cash. You may need it to get in, for some food vendors, or even to get tickets to play games or go on rides. Bring a good amount too!
4. Figure out what you want to see/do and when
This goes hand in hand with the amount of cash you may need to bring. If your county or state fair has a website with all the events and times, it is recommended to check that out. Create a list of what you want to do in your time then look over where things are located and at what times. This way you have a nice agenda and are not running around “wasting” time or energy or even missing something you didn’t know was happening.
5. Bring either a backpack, fanny pack, or purse
Depending on if you are an individual or a mother with kids it is a good idea to bring some sort of bag to hold your things. This way you are not logging around a wagon or carrying things in your hand. If you decide to bring a backpack, find one that is smaller so your shoulders and back don’t get tired, but still fits everything you need (water, sunscreen, a couple of snacks, and your wallet).
6. Make sure your phone is charged
If you are planning on going to the fair, you are going to want to be there all day or all night. Make sure your phone is fully or mostly charged. This way you are reachable for emergencies and can constantly take pictures during your time at the fair!
7. Figure out the parking or shuttle situation
The part that is most stressful about the fair is the parking or bussing situation. Similar to planning on your agenda, check out your county or state fair website for parking and bus information. This way you know where to park, how much to pay, and how much time you need. One thing to note as well is to expect crowds here too! Plan on getting to your destination early so you have time to spare!
Going to the fair is always a fun time, but when you are not prepared it can be a nightmare! Of course, there are many other things to consider (what to eat, what rides there may be, maybe saving money, packing extra snacks). But with these basic tips, you should be good to go!
