Triton Baseball Wins Subsection; Blooming Prairie Still Kicking
Triton baseball won the 1AA West Subsection Monday with a 3-1 victory over top-seed Rochester Lourdes. The second-seeded Cobras advance to the winners' bracket final against Caledonia Saturday, June 2 at May Field in Rochester at 10 am.
Blooming Prairie stayed alive in the 1A West Subsection losers' bracket with a 5-3 victory over top-seed Hayfield Monday. The Awesome Blossoms were leading United South Central 4-1 in the second inning of another elimination game when it was suspended by the weather. It will resume Tuesday at 5 pm in Austin.
Triton's Levi Smith continued his mound domination with a complete game four-hitter against Lourdes. He struck out seven, did not walk a batter or give up an earned run. Smith is 9-0 on the season with an ERA below 1.00 according to the Post Bulletin. Smith also drove in a run Monday. Drew Kelly went 2-for-4 in the lead-off spot and had an RBI. Triton out hit Lourdes 5-4. The Cobras have only won a few games over the past two season, with many of the current players gaining valuable experience over that time.
Blooming Prairie topped Hayfield 5-3 behind a strong pitching performance from Ian Wayne, who tossed a complete game five-hitter. He struck out three and did not allow an earned run. BP overcame three errors to advance, scoring all of their runs in the fourth inning after Hayfield had gone up 1-0 in the third. Colin Lerum drove in three and Max Romeo had two RBI. Blooming Prairie had lost 14-4 to the Vikings on May 16.
The Awesome Blossoms were leading 4-1 in the second inning against United South Central when the game was suspended by the weather. The game that will resume at 5 pm Tuesday at Riverland Community College. The winner advances to the final four Saturday in Austin. The loser is out of the tournament.
Owatonna resumes Section 1AAAA play Tuesday, May 29 hosting Rochester Century at 5 pm at Fuller Field at Dartt's Park on Kat Kountry 105FM. The top-seeded Huskies beat Rochester JM Saturday 5-2.
