From the high school's colors to some famous people, here are a few things it's good to know about Owatonna.

1. Owatonna High School colors used to be orange and black. That is one reason the Steele County Blades junior hockey team chose those colors when they formed in 2012. The old OHS mascot Indians was among the suggestions for the junior team's nickname.

2. OHS Athletic Hall of Fame member Noel Jenke lettered in sports at the University of Minnesota and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Blackhawks. He played pro football with the Vikings, Atlanta and Green Bay and pitched in the minor leagues.

3. Don Laughlin, who established Laughlin, Nevada, as an entertainment and gambling destination, was born and raised in Owatonna.

4. Actor / producer E. G. Marshall was born in Owatonna. He appeared in more than 150 movies and TV shows. One of his most memorable roles came in 12 Angry Men. He died in 1998 at age 84.

5. MMA fighter Travis Wiuff is a graduate of Owatonna High School.

6. The 1995 movie Angus was shot in Owatonna. The Rotten Tomatoes numbers aren't so good. But how often can you watch a movie and see people you know?

7. Owatonna was recently named one of the top 100 small towns in the country by wallethub.com. The criteria included affordability, economic health, quality of education and quality of life.
