While their unbeaten seasons came to an end Saturday, both the Owatonna High School girls lacrosse and boys tennis teams have had strong starts to their seasons.

Huskies girls lacrosse won their first four games before falling to Bloomington Kennedy on Saturday afternoon. While winning their first four games, OHS limited their opponents to a total of seven goals. Coach Bill Bernard says great defensive play and a solid goal keeper have combined to make Owatonna one of the top defensive teams in the state.

Owatonna senior Krista Kniefel became the all-time leading scorer in history of the program during Friday's win at Rochester Century. OHS plays at Rochester JM on Thursday and will host Farmington on Saturday, May 2, in a cancer-awareness game. That is the same day as the "From the Heart" half marathon in Owatonna. Saturday's opening face off is at 4:45PM.

Huskies coach Bill Bernard spoke about these topics on Saturday's high school coaches show.

Owatonna High School boys tennis is off to a 6-0 start in Big Nine play. OHS went 2-1 Saturday at the Lakeville South tournament to win the consolation bracket. Coach Curt Matejcek says having veterans among the singles players is one of Owatonna's strengths this season. Solid doubles play has complemented their play.

The Huskies have one of the top conference teams looming on their schedule. OHS goes to Rochester Century on Tuesday for a 4:30PM match. One of the top players for the Panthers boys team is a girl. Jessie Aney is among the top-ranked players in the country and is Century's No. 1 singles player.
