NRHEG’s Peterson Named as Coach for All-Star Basketball Series
NRHEG girls basketball coach Onika Peterson has been named to the Minnesota girls high school all-star series to take place Saturday, April 8, in Northfield.
The news release from the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association names the third-year head coach to the coaching staff for the event at Carleton College in Northfield. The one-day event is Saturday, April 8, with games at 1PM and 3PM. Tickets will be available at the door. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free.
Peterson coached NRHEG to the consolation championship at the recent Minnesota state girls basketball tournament. Peterson has been involved with four of the five state tournament trips for the Panthers, either as a manager, assistant coach or head coach, according to the media guide posted on the Minnesota State High School League website. The NRHEG athletic department invites all fans to the winter sports athletic awards night Sunday April 9 at 6PM at the high school gym. The wrestlers, cheerleaders, girls' and boys' basketball teams will be honored.
Among the southern Minnesota players named to the all-star series roster are Halley Busse of Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, Kaylyn Kidd of Northfield, Eden Nibbelink of Winona, Emmaline Polson of Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Mara Quam of Kenyon-Wanamingo, Meleah Reinhart of New Ulm, Mariah Schroeder of Caledonia, Lindsey Theuninck of Mankato Loyola and Danneka Voegeli of Winona.
Joining Peterson as coaches are Rick Theuninck and Rob Schroeder of Mankato Loyola, Devin Drager of Maple River, Wendy Kohler and Julie Wrobel of Alexandria and Chris VanderHyde and Luke Swedberg of Park Center.
A free youth clinic, hosted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx Basketball Academy, will be presented to girls in kindergarten through fourth grade from 11:30AM to 12:30PM on Saturday before the basketball games. All activities are at Carleton College in Northfield.
