Wilson’s Long Run Only Score in NRHEG Victory

On a night that the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale Geneva football team did not complete a pass, the Panthers needed to find a way to get the ball to speedster Lonnie Wilson. Coach Marc Kruger moved him into the backfield for about 10 hand offs. One of them went for 86 yards to give NRHEG the win.

"I don't care that we only won 7-0. Because if you look at this we didn't just play Lake Crystal (Welcome Memorial), we played the weather too and we came out on top," the coach said on Saturday's AM 1390 KRFO Coaches Show.

NRHEG stopped LCWM at their 14-yard line on a fourth down attempt in the fourth quarter. "Next play when we're on offense, lined Lonnie up in the backfield. He's one of our receivers. But we were at the point, where he's one of our best players and if we can't throw the ball, we've got to find different ways to get him the ball. So he had quite a few more rushing carries (Friday) night than normal. And we had a toss to him, he hit the edge, and he's one of the fastest kids I've ever coached. He hit the sideline and was gone."

The Panthers go to Winthrop to play Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Wednesday, October 16 at 7 pm.

Medford dropped a 14-0 game to Kenyon-Wanamingo Friday. Medford had some scoring chances in the first half but came up empty. Coach Jerome Johannes said, "It was a game of field position and we had it for the majority of the night. Every time we got the ball in the first half we completely drove down but just couldn't get in the end zone."

The game-changing play came on special teams in the second half when a punt by the Knights was muffed by the Tigers' return man and gave KW a short field. Medford goes to Blooming Prairie for the final game of the regular season.

The Awesome Blossoms improved to 7-0 Friday with a 48-6 win at Bethlehem Academy. Coach Chad Gimbel said the defense had another great game, "Being able to execute and tackle, I thought defensively we were able to a lot of good things as well. Overall, we were pretty happy with the performance (Friday) night."

Gimbel says BP ran more of a two-back offense due to the windy, cold conditions, though they still threw 19 times.

Triton got back into the win column with a 35-14 triumph over Plainview-Elgin-Millville. A big defensive play set up the first score as the Cobras returned a fumble deep into Bulldogs' territory. Braxton Munnikhuysen then scored the first of his three first-half touchdowns.

The teams traded scores with PEM grabbing a 14-13 lead. Jaxon Sackett returned the ensuing kick off about 90 yards to give the Cobras the lead for good. The evening also included Tackle Cancer Night in Dodge Center and the induction of the Triton Hall of Fame.
