Man Admits Being Drunk in Fatal Crash in Southern Minnesota
A 30-year-old man admitted to being intoxicated when he apparently traveled in the wrong lane on Highway 19 near Northfield in August of 2017 and struck another vehicle, killing a woman and injuring her passenger. The plea was entered in Rice County Court this week by Brandon Dellwo of Shakopee according to the Star Tribune. Sentencing will occur in mid-June.
Kacy Merseal, age 29, of Des Moines was killed in the crash. She and a friend were returning home after a concert in the Twin Cities. The crash happened on Highway 19 near west of I-35 after midnight.
The report indicates that Dellwo's blood-alcohol-content was 0.266, a figure more than three times the legal limit in the state of Minnesota. The Star Tribune also states that Dellwo has other alcohol violations on his record. His plea on Monday was to criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation.
