Faribault, Owatonna Increase Northfield Loses Population 2020

According to information recently released by the US Census Bureau the cities of Faribault, Owatonna and Northfield saw increases in population from 2010 to 2020. Actually there's a bit of a difference with Northfield's numbers.

Minnesota's population was up 7.6% to 5,706,494.  13 states and the District of Columbia grew 10% or more.  The fastest growing state by percentage Utah.

According to the US Census figures Faribault population in 2020 was 24,453.  Owatonna 26,420 and Northfield 20,908.  Figures reported to the Rice County GIS office by the US Census had Northfield's population at 19,539 down from 20,007 from 2010.

The Rice County GIS office had the latest numbers for Rice County.  We also checked US Census Bureau information for other area communities outside of Rice County.

Other area communities had these numbers reported.

Kenyon 1,788 down from 1,815 in 2010.  Dodge Center up from 2,670 to 2,798.  Blooming Prairie went from 1,996 down to 1,927. Cannon Falls dropped from 4,083 to 4,022.  Byron increased from 4,914 to 5,691.  Kasson was up to 6,530 from 5,931.

Waterville grew by two people to 1,870 over the last decade. Waseca was down from 9,410 to 8,835. Wanamingo decreased from 1,086 to 1,075. Mantorville went up from 1,197 to 1,205.  Zumbrota grew from 3,252 to 3,530. Mazeppa went from 842 to 850.

Lake City increased from 5,063 to 5,114.  Goodhue went down from 1,176 to 1,164.  LeCenter went from 2,499 in 2010 to 2,482 in 2020.  LeSueur 4,031 down from 4,058.  Montgomery grew from 2,956 to 3,148.

New Prague population went up from 7,321 to 8,200.  New Richland went from 1,203 down to 1,171.  Pine Island saw growth from 3,263 to 3,486.  Medford grew from 1,239 to 1,255.  Randolph went up from 436 to 444 people.  Red Wing saw a decrease in population from 16,459 to 16,416.

Lakeville had a healthy increase from 55,954 to 69,583. Apple Valley went from 49,084 to 54,847.  Burnsville went up to 62,170 from  60,306. Rosemount grew to 25,798 from 21,874.  Farmington went from 21,086 to 23,037. Eagan up from 64,206 to 65,975.

Janesville went down from 2,256 to 2,247. Waldorf decreased by 5 people to 224.  Pemberton went from 247 to 241. Hayfield lost three people during the decade with a current population of 1,337.  Jordan grew from 5,470 to 6,420.  Hampton grew by 3 people to 692.  Henderson went from 886 in 2010 to 920 in 2020.

Claremont decreased from 548 to 534.  West Concord went from 782 to 763.  Kilkenny grew from 134 to 146 people.

Duluth fell from 86,265 to 85,773. Albert Lea had a decrease from 18,016 to 17,733.  Austin grew from 24,718 to 25,342.  Mankato went from 39,309 to 43,435.  Rochester catapulted from 106,769 to 119,862.  Belle Plaine increased from 6,661 to 7,120.  Bloomington grew from 82,893 to 84,583.
