Winter and road construction? It can't get much better than that. Luckily, this project will only close this well-traveled Owatonna road for one day.

Westbound 26th Street from 4th Avenue to State Avenue in Owatonna was supposed to be closed for a short time Friday, January 7th. However, classic Minnesota weather got in the way.

Due to the extreme cold weather last Friday, the construction project was postponed to this Wednesday, January 12th. If everything goes as planned, the road should only be closed this one day from 9 am to 3 pm.

According to a news release from the Steele County Highway Department:

"Traffic will be detoured via Cedar Avenue, North Street, Hoffman Drive, and State Avenue. The 26th Street/State Avenue roundabout will remain open and eastbound traffic will not be affected."

Crews will be working on light poles at the new roundabout on the intersection with County Road 45.

Naturally, the dates are subject to change if some unpredictable weather heads our way. Thankfully, as of now, tomorrow's forecast looks promising.

Steele County encourages motorists to drive with caution. Be alert and drive slowly through work zones for your safety and the safety of the construction crews.

It seems Minnesotans simply can't escape road construction, no matter what time of year.
