Apparently due to some benefits of doing so shown online in various places, people are drinking hydrogen peroxide. According to the Star Tribune, six people have been treated at Hennepin County Medical Center after accidentally drinking a highly concentrated version.

People use peroxide for a number of things, including as a natural treatment for sinus infections, inflammation and other ailments.

A new practice becoming popular is to put three drops of concentrated peroxide into a glass of water and drink it three times per day. Doctors say there really is not any benefits to you for doing this and it can cause major problems in the long run. Usually in the drug store you find a 3-5% peroxide solution. These people are using a food-grade quality product - a 35% solution.

If you drink the liquid, it can burn holes in the esophagus and stomach, and can create oxygen bubbles that can be released in the blood stream. When that happens, as explained by Dr. Stephen Hendriksen in the report, the bubbles can travel to the brain and cause seizures and stroke-like symptoms. Hendriksen is an ER doctor at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Just drink some plain water instead.
