Owatonna's annual day to show support for kids was a tremendous success on Saturday. Events were held for several different groups that focus on young people.

The 37th annual Young Life cake auction brought in a preliminary total of just over $71,000, which sets a record for the event. The cake auction pairs 100 auction cakes with specials. Several combos went for more than $1,000. Those included a weeklong stay at Copper Mountain Colorado condo, a Kenny Chesney concert ticket package, an Xbox, and a yard set that included two wooden Adirondack chairs and handmade bean bag game. Jewelry, electronics, artwork and many gift cards are among the specials that accompany the cakes. Many local individuals provide donations to entice bidders.

Other fundraising activities during the cake action include silent auction baskets and the "High. Low." game. KRFO Radio AM 1390 again broadcast the entire auction live on the air and online with auctioneers John "raise that bid" Connor, Loren "I gotta have more" Hart, and Roy "it's only money" Koenig.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Minnesota Bowling for Kids' Sake was held Friday in Faribault and Saturday at Spare Time Entertainment in Owatonna. Saturday's efforts raised nearly $65,000.

Saturday's line-up wrapped up with the St. Mary's School "Night of Knights" auction.
