If you know someone who farms for a living, this is absolutely heartbreaking to watch. A Minnesota man who works at his family's dairy farm near Pine Island is going viral after airing out his frustrations in a Facebook video. In the video, 26-year-old Mark Berg opens up about the many hardships that dairy farmers (and farmers in general) have been going through in recent years - especially at his family's dairy farm.

"...when you literally work day in and day out all the time for nothing, we gain nothing. We are taking loans just to pay bills, and that's the current situation for dairy farming."

How bad is it for dairy farmers right now? The University of Minnesota recently reported that the median income at a dairy farm in our state dropped from $43,000 in 2017 to just $15,000 last year. And that may be contributing to some dark realities in the farming community:

"We've got literally farmers committing suicide all the time, it's not like a few...wives coming home to their husbands dead in the house because they've lost everything they had and they feel like they've failed every generation before them. It's not just dairy farming; crop farming's crap, pigs are crap, everything is crap. Everything farm-related is just a waste of your time. Nobody realizes that nobody gets it. Because they just go to the grocery store and they get food and it's there. They don't realize that people are literally losing their lives because they're working for nothing."

If you aren't aware about the many struggles facing dairy farmers in our state, I highly recommend you watch this video:

That is devastating to watch. Hopefully something can be done to ease the pain of the farmers who are so vital to our community.
