Wanamingo Opponent will be Sartell
The Wanamingo Jacks have an opponent next weekend at the Minnesota State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament. The Sartell Muskies defeated the Hutchinson Huskies 5-1 today in Hamburg.
The Jacks and fish square off Saturday, August 29, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. in Waconia.
The game was scoreless until the 6th inning when Sartell exploded for 4 runs. The Huskies only run was scored in the 9th inning.
The Muskies outhit Hutchinson 8-6. David Deminsky threw 8 scoreless innings with 5 hits allowed, 13 strikeouts, 1 walk, no extra base hits. David Kroger pitched the 9th giving up the only run while facing 4 batters.
Jon DeRock took the loss for Hutchinson going the first 5 1/3 innings with 5 hits, 4 earned runs, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts. Draftees Jon Eurele and Ethan Hansen both of the Buffalo Bulldogs pitched the rest of the way.
The Huskies were charged with 2 errors. The boxscore showed 0 errors for Sartell.
Muskies catcher Cody Partch had 2 RBI and 2 sacrifice flies. Lead hitter Andrew Deters smacked a double and collected 2 RBI. Jace Otto was the only Sartell player to have more than one hit with two. Tim Burns scored 2 runs and had a double.
Region 3 teams New Prague and St. Benedict were defeated in their openers.
The Luxemburg Brewers bested the St. Benedict Saints 5-2 while the Bemidji Blue Ox had their way with New Prague 12-3 in Waconia.
St. Benedict scored a run in the first inning and last inning but Luxemburg enjoyed a 4 run 5th inning in the contest. HIts were 7 for the Brewers, 6 for the Saints. Both teams were charged with an error.
St. Benedict had 4 pitchers take the mound. Nick Holland took the loss going the first 4 1/3 with 4 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned, 4 strikeouts, 3 walks. Matthias Duevel pitched 1/3 inning with 1 hit, 1 earned run, 1 walk.
Nolan Eischens pitched 3 innings, 2 hits allowed. 1 strikeout. Cody Pirkl faced one batter in the 9th.
The Brewers J.T. Harren took the mound for 8 1/3 innings with 6 hits allowed, 2 earned runs, 9 strikeouts, 3 walks. Reed Pfannenstein retired the last two batters in the game.
Nolan Eischens caught, pitched and played shortstop for the Saints while achieving two hits in the game. Jonathan Huss and Zach Bakko achieved the RBI for St. Benedict.
New Prague faced Bemidji draftee Andrew Pugliano of the Dilworth Raildogs. It was a 6-3 game going into the 9th inning when the Blue Ox exploded for 6 runs to seal the victory.
Pugliano fanned 12 New Prague batters after going the distance with 3 runs allowed, 2 earned. He walked 2 batters
Bryce Novak suffered the loss for the Orioles after pitching 4 innings, trailing 4-1. He allowed 6 hits with 1 walk, 3 strikeouts. Draftees Ben Morrison of Prior Lake and Nate Picka of Veseli went the final 4 innings. Morrison allowed 8 hits, 7 runs, 6 earned with one strikeout, 2 walks.
Picka logged 1/3 inning with 1 hit, 1 unearned run.
Bemidji showed good lumber with 2 home runs, 3 doubles in the game. Otto Grimm and Turner Storm cranked the home runs. Ben Thoma, Cody Rutledge and Mitch Hendricks clubbed the doubles. Hendricks tallied 3 hits, 3 RBI. Connor McNallan had 3 hits, Rutledge 2 hits, Grimm 2 hits and Caleb Manecke 5 hits in the 15 hit attack.
Novak had 3 hits and was hit by a pitch for New Prague. Patrick Timmer had 2 hits and a walk. Jake Deutsch was the only other Orioles player to get a hit and also walked.

In Class B the 3 time defending State Champion Chanhassen Red Birds ran away from the Moorhead Mudcats 8-1. Triton Cobras and St. Cloud State pitcher Logan Spitzcak was one of three Chanhassen pitchers to log time on the mound.
Grand Forks defeated Anoka 7-1. St. Michael edged the Moorhead Brewers 2-1. Victoria got by Hamel 4-1.
New Market, Miesville, Hampton and Rochester out of Section 1B all play Sunday after the Mudhens game with Chaska was postponed after 4 inning with Miesville up 5-0.
