Update: Minnesota Football Player In Coma Wakes For His Coach
A Hill-Murray football player was placed into a medically induced coma after collapsing on the field during a Section Playoff game against St. Paul Johnson. A few days later he awoke at the sound of his coach's voice.
Zach Zarembinski had what doctor's described as a brain bleed on the field and was treated for the bleed at the hospital. According to his CaringBridge page, after several days of battling, Zarembinski eyes opened up when he heard the sound of his coach's voice, Pete Bericich. His coach along with his family asked for a thumbs up and on command, he did just that.
A GoFundMe page has raised over $38,000 to help the family with expenses as of 10:30 am Wednesday.
Zarembinski still struggles with breathing on his own and they are continuing to ween him off certain medications. If you want to donate you can do so here.
