The Steele County United Way recognized local businessman Corey Mensink and the Owatonna Bus Company during their 'Leaders in Giving Luncheon' Wednesday. Mensink was presented with the LIVE UNITED award. Executive Director of the Steele County United Way Kim Schaufenbuel said to earn the award, "You have to be exemplary in your giving to the community, in your volunteering with a wide variety of organizations, and in your advocating for an improved community. These are hallmarks of that award."

Regarding Mensink, she said, "Corey Mensink has been a volunteer in our community. So many different types of volunteerism that I can't even list them for you." He has also served on the board of the Steele County United Way.

Bill and Sally Regan, Katy Kreutter and Steve Hale of the Owatonna Bus Company were also recognized. Schaufenbuel said, "The Owatonna Bus Company is one that just helps out in every aspect of our community...Not only do they help with their own business in providing buses for different events and non-profits, they are very generous donors in our community. Folks like that we just can't do without."

On Friday night another LIVE UNITED award will be presented at the Blooming Prairie football game. Jennifer Wayne of Blooming Prairie will be honored at halftime. Wayne volunteers with the school district and First Lutheran Church. She currently serves on the church council and is secretary of the BPHS Music Boosters.

The annual campaign of the Steele County United Way is underway with Federated Insurance serving as the corporate campaign leader for a second time. This year's goal is $725,000 to provide funding for 23 organizations that serve local needs.
