March 13 was the date. After the late February blizzard and then still more snow the roof of Cattle Barn 2 collapsed under all that weight at the Steele County Fairgrounds. A barn collapsed up at the State Fairgrounds as well. The  barn was located next to the Show Arena and Radel Pavilion. The barn was one of two that were built 61 years ago. Fair Manager Scott Kozelka sought out estimates to replace each of the barns and also estimates to replace both of the barns.

A special Steele County Fair Board meeting was called last week at which six estimates were revealed. The board agreed to replace the two old barns with one larger barn at a price of $255,450 by Wick Buildings. The Wick bid also included the demolition of both of the 1958 built barns.

The directors have requested that a deadline be include in the construction contract that the new barn would be built and ready this August's fair. The new barn will measure 114 feet by 152 feet.
