The Steele County Toys for Tots program has once again received special recognition. For the second straight year the program has been recognized as a top 20 Local Community Organization in the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation national and regional campaigns. A total of 792 units took part in the 2016 National Toys for Tots campaign. After review of each of these programs along with an internal audit, the Steele County program was selected for recognition at the annual conference in September.

In 2016 the Steele County Toys for Tots Program distributed 4,154 toys along with 1,415 books and 4,000 stocking stuffers. Monetary donations enabled the group to purchase 1,071 toys, along with 1,043 books and 1,123 stocking stuffers. A total of 714 toys were provided by the National Toys for Tots. A total of 526 families filled out applications, which translated into 1,188 children served, with each child getting two gifts, several stocking stuffers and one book.
