Special Olympics State Bowling
This past weekend was a busy one for me, and for several area Special Olympic Athletes. It was the culmination of the bowling season with the State Games happening at several bowling alleys throughout the great State of Minnesota. Owatonna Area Special Olympics bowled at Bowlero in Lakeville, and they did a great job of hosting the numerous athletes, coaches, Unified Partners, and spectators.
My daughter and I are both registered as Unified Partners, I am also a coach, and this year I decided to partner with an athlete to do doubles in bowling. This was a challenge as I was not able to bowl at the beginning of the season, I was in a cast, and I have not bowled for years. In fact, my average is around 55, I don't think I have bowled over 100 in about that many years. Much to my surprise my first game I bowled a 96, which was enough to get 3rd place, which means my partner and I both got a Bronze Medal. Yep, I am now an Olympic medalist, something to be proud of.
If Special Olympics is something you are interested in joining, you can check out Minnesota Special Olympics, I can tell you it is a lot of fun.
