The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development recently released data in regards to jobs in Southeast Minnesota. While the 7 county metro accounts for 61.2 of statewide jobs, Southeast Minnesota ranks second with 8.5% of the jobs. We also rank second to the metro with 12,543 establishments, second with a median annual wage of $52,260 and second in payroll with just under $12.8 billion.

Taking a look at employment in the ten year window from 2008 till 2018, Southeast Minnesota saw the largest job gains in Health Care and Social Assistance followed by Accommodation and Food Services and then Educational Services.

The largest loss of jobs in that ten year time frame came in manufacturing followed by finance and insurance and then retail trade. Even though manufacturing is where we lost the most jobs, it still stands as having the second highest number of jobs in the region.
