SMART Transit Expanding Hours

Melinda Estey of SMART Transit was a guest on AM1390's Talk of the Town. Starting Tuesday, January 2, hours of operation will be expanded for the on demand service. Hours of operation will be expanded from 6AM to 6PM to 5AM to 7PM. There will also be increased service effective January 2. An additional work route is being added from 5-9AM, 2-7PM and 9-midnight that go to the Industrial Park area. Riverland Community College is being added to this route as well. The limitless monthly pass is going up in price by $5. Ride all you wish for $35 a month. Besides Owatonna, there is also service for Ellendale, Blooming Prairie and Medford residents. For on demand service call 855-762-7821. Remember to schedule a ride home again too if that is the case. County wide service is $2.50. Rides in Owatonna are $2.

While SMART does not yet offer transportation across county lines, it does provide service in 4 counties. Ridership last year was around 248,000. This year's ridership is on target to hit around 290,000.
