Second Guilty Plea in Owatonna Murder Case
Owatonna, MN (KROC-AM News) - The second man charged with a drug-related murder near Owatonna last summer has pleaded guilty.
38-year-old Gerald Blevins entered the guilty plea to a second-degree murder charge in Steele County Court this morning, a day after 25-year-old Cyrus Trevino entered into a similar plea agreement to avoid going to trial accused of first-degree murder for the execution-style shooting death of 22-year-old Richard Jurgenson. The Medford man was found dead near Owatonna on June 25th of last year.
A Jury was being seated for Trevino’s trial when he admitted shooting Jurgenson, while Blevins was scheduled to stand trial in January. Prosecutors say the two men mistakenly believed the victim was a police informant. The charges say they convinced Jurgenson to get in a car and then drove him to the remote spot where he was killed and his body was left at the edge of a rural road.
Blevins and Trevino are both scheduled to be sentenced on November 13th.
