Owatonna Football Announces Summer Youth Camp

Owatonna football has announced plans for their annual summer youth camp. It will look and feel a little different, but the event go on August 10 - 13 at the OHS football stadium from 5:30 pm - 8 pm each night. It is designed for athletes entering third through tenth grade and costs $80. Registration must be completed online. There will be no walk-ups this year. Sign up is limited to the first 200 players. Safety protocol implemented this year will include temperature checks and screening each night. Participants and coaches will be organized into groups that will move from station to station together. Social distancing will occur in each pod. Equipment will be disinfected between user groups. Use of masks by athletes in encouraged, but optional. The camp, which has been held for over 20 years, is a non-contact camp. The brochure states, "The main goal of the camp is to teach the fundamentals of offense, defense, and the kicking game to each participant. Important skills are taught through individual/groups drills and lead-up games.

Athletes entering third through sixth grade will do drills for all positions. Players entering seventh through tenth grade will select an offensive and defensive position to focus on. The camp normally utilizes all members of the Owatonna football coaching staff, as well as current and former players.

OHS grads currently planning to play college football include Jason Williamson (University of MN), Joseph Stransky (UW-River Falls), Zach Mensink (WI-LaCrosse), Abe Havelka (St. John's), Terrell Connor (Sioux Falls), Carson DeKam (Gustavus), Ethan Rohman (Drake), Sam Henson (Concordia-St. Paul), and Matt Williams (Duluth).

At the varsity level, the Huskies are the four-time defending section champs and hope to open their season on September 4 at Rochester Century.
