The Owatonna girls' basketball team raced to a 47-18 halftime lead on their way to a 69-48 win over Rochester John Marshall Friday night. More importantly, the packed gym helped raise $2,750 for the American Cancer Society on the Huskies' Coaches Versus Cancer night. Youth night and the pep band added to the festive atmosphere for what may have been a preview of the opening round of the section playoffs later this month.

The Huskies kept up steady full-court pressure and went on a 26-3 run in the first half to build an insurmountable lead. The score was 16-11 when OHS went on their blitz. Sydney Schultz scored 15 of her 21 in the first half. Jenna Zeman scored 12 or her 15 in the first half. Lexi Falken scored all seven of her points in the first half. Hannah Gebur and Stephanie Liebl each added six.

OHS coach Lindsey Hugstad-Vaa was pleased with her team's defensive pressure and how they battled inside against the young, tall Rockets. Owatonna (16-6, 15-3 Big Nine) has won eight of their last nine and appears to be on solid footing for a home game in the playoffs. JM (11-11, 10-8) could be that opponent. The Huskies play at Rochester Mayo Tuesday, February 13 at 7:30PM on Kat Kountry 105FM.

Fundraising for the American Cancer Society Friday night included t-shirt sales, raffle ticket prizes from local businesses and a paper airplane toss.
