Owatonna Baseball Season Halted by Rockets
The Owatonna High School baseball season ended Wednesday with an 11-1, six-inning loss to Rochester John Marshall at Fuller Field at Dartt's Park. As the second loss of the Section 1-4A tournament, that marked the end of the Huskies' season. Owatonna fell to Lakeville South 7-0 on Monday.
JM jumped out to a quick 3-0 in the top of the first. OHS put runners on second and third in the bottom of the inning but stranded them. The Rockets added two in the second for a 5-0 lead. The Huskies put two aboard in the second as well but also left them on base.
The Rockets added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth to put the game to an early end. Owatonna's only run came on a solo home run by Teagun Ahrens in the sixth.
John Marshall outhit Owatonna 11-3. The Huskies committed three errors. The Rockets had none. JM's Tyler Motley threw the complete game, walked five, and didn't strike out a batter.
Owatonna (10-12) had seniors Eli Knutson, Nick Williams, Grant Achterkirch, Taylor Bogen, Jack Helget, Cael Dowling, Caleb Vereide, and Addison Andrix.
Rochester JM (6-16) advances to Saturday, June 4 for another elimination game, facing Rochester Mayo at Red Wing at 1:30 pm. Top-seed and defending state champion Farmington will play Lakeville South to open the day at 11 am in the winner's bracket final.
The loser of the Tigers/Cougars game will play the winner of the Rockets/Spartans game at 4 pm. The championship game in 1-4A is set for Tuesday, June 7 at 5 pm in Red Wing.
