NRHEG Volleyball Season Ends in Playoff Loss Tuesday
A nice playoff run ended for NRHEG volleyball Tuesday night 3-0 to No. 2 seed St. Clair in the Section 2A, south subsection semifinals. The scores went 25-19, 25-11, 25-22. NRHEG (11-17, No. 6 seed) beat Springfield in the first round and upset No. 3 seed Alden-Conger in the quarterfinals.
Seniors on the Panthers' roster include Kelly Harden, Emily Crabtree, Erin VanWilgen, Gabby Muri and Betsy Schoenrock.
St. Clair faces top-seed WEM in Thursday's subsection final at Mankato East High School at 6PM. That will be followed by the north subsection championship between top-ranked Mayer-Lutheran and upset-minded BOLD.
Section 2AA volleyball Tuesday saw Kenyon-Wanamingo, the top-seed in the south subsection, sweep Tri-City United. The Knights face St. Peter Thursday in the finals at 6PM at New Prague High School on Power 96 radio. Afterward Southwest Christian battles Glencoe-Silver Lake in the north final.
On Wednesday, November 1, Section 1AAA semifinals take over the Mayo Civic Center with top-seed Lakeville North against Rochester Century and Big Nine champ Northfield against defending section champ Lakeville South.
On Thursday in Rochester, Section 1A subsection finals feature four top ten rated teams. No. 4 Hayfield (the top seed) plays No. 5 Bethlehem Academy at 6PM on KDHL AM 920 in the west subsection final in a rematch from last year, won by the Vikings. Then No. 7 Caledonia plays No. 10 Mabel-Canton for the east title. The winners square off Saturday at 1PM.
Also Thursday, 1AA subsection finals unfold at Mayo Civic with Stewartville against Kasson-Mantorville in another top-ten showdown and Plainview-Elgin-Millville meets Red Wing.
