It has been a hot-button topic as the 2020 Presidental Election comes nearer, and it is amongst the highest in Minnesota.

According to the latest study from Wallet Hub, Minnesota is 2019’s 6th state with the most student debt. Wallet Hub compiled the list after taking a look at 12 key metrics. Here are some of the highlights for Minnesota.

9th – Avg. Student Debt
4th – Proportion of Students with Debt
30th – Student Debt as % of Income (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
2nd – % of Student-Loan Borrowers Aged 50+
28th – Availability of Paid Internships
21st – Grant Growth

I was surprised to see South Dakota come up at #1 on the list, with states like California and New York rated at 49 and 34, respectfully. I for sure would have thought that those schools would have had a higher student debt rating, but there are among the lowest in the nation.

Student Loan debt will remain a hot topic throughout the election cycle, but as numbers start to roll out, it might become even a hotter-topic in states like Minnesota.
