The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights defeated the Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals 67-42 Monday night in the Castle at Kenyon-Wanamingo High School Monday night.  The first half it was back and forth before the Knights took a 32-28 lead into halftime.  Four of the Cardinals first five possessions of the second half turned into turnovers and before they knew it Kenyon-Wanamingo had a double digit lead.  My Baker and Axelson CPA's of Wanamingo statistics had the Knights scoring 10 points off turnovers in the second half which was one of the differences in the game.

Junior Riley Dummer was lights out good with five three point baskets and 27 points for the Knights.  Junior Julianna Boyum added 13 points and junior Megan Mattson collected 12 points in the game.  Junior Ally Peterson came off the bench to contribute 8 points and two three point baskets.  Peterson did not play basketball the past couple of seasons concentrating solely on volleyball but Kenyon-Wanamingo Head Coach Jake Wieme is happy to have her on the team.

"She adds depth, is obviously a very good athlete and teammate," Wieme says.  The first year girls basketball Head Coach for K-W was particularly happy with his team's defense in the first half.  They cranked it up a couple of notches defensively in the second half not allowing the Cardinals to get too many open looks at the basket.

Bethlehem Academy struggled offensively in the second half when the Knights ratcheted up the defense.  Senior Abby Strodtman led the Cardinals scoring with 15 points and freshman Mercedes Huerta added 7 points.  They were named our Faribault State Farm Insurance Agents Faribault players of the game courtesy of Faribault State Farm agents Tony Langerud and Jason Krohn.

The Cardinals host Triton Tuesday, entertain Blooming Prarie Friday.  Kenyon-Wanamingo goes to Byron Tuesday and will be part of a girls/boys doubleheader Tuesday in the Castle on KDHL.

In a thriller Monday night the Randolph Rockets fell in overtime to defending Class A Champion Lyle-Pacelli in Southeast Conference action in Randolph.  The Rockets led at halftime 28-25.  The game was tied at 46 at the end of regulation.  The Athletics outscored Randolph 8-3 in the extra session.

The Rockets were led by Megan Erickson with 17 points, Andrea Splichal had 15 points and Morgyn Otte added 11 points.  Olivia Christianson led Lye/Pacelli with 17 points, Lucy Nelson added 16 points and Abigail Bollingberg collected 14 points.
